The Complete Wedding Photography Checklist
A wedding photography checklist is one of the most practical documents you can create before your big day. It ensures that every important moment — from the quiet preparations in the morning to the final farewell — is captured, so no memory is left undocumented.
Getting ready shots are among the most emotionally rich images from any wedding. Include: the bride having her veil placed, close-up details of shoes and jewelry, the groom adjusting his tie or cufflinks, and the first look at the finished bridal look in the mirror.
The ceremony checklist should include: the processional walk, the exchange of vows and rings, the first kiss, signing the marriage certificate, and the recessional. Also note any special cultural or religious rituals that must be documented.
Family portraits require careful pre-planning. Create a specific list of every family grouping you want captured, ordered from largest to smallest to maximize efficiency. Share this list with your photographer and designate a family member to help organize and gather people for each shot.
Wedding party portraits — bridal party, groomsmen, and mixed groups — should be planned in advance. Decide on locations within your venue, confirm timing with your coordinator, and brief your wedding party on what to expect.
Reception documentation should include: the venue detail shots before guests arrive, the first dance, the parent dances, speeches and toasts, cake cutting, bouquet toss, and candid guest moments throughout the evening.
Detail shots are the threads that weave your wedding story together. Request specific images of: the invitation suite, rings on a meaningful surface, the bouquet, centerpieces, escort cards, the cake, menu cards, and any other personal touches you have worked hard to create.
